The C.N.A. class prepares students to perform basic supportive skills in caring for patients in various healthcare settings. This class provides classroom and laboratory instruction and clinical experience in a nursing home or hospital. Graduates are awarded a certificate upon passing the state test and are placed on the Wisconsin Nurse Aide Registry. C.N.A. fulfills a prerequisite for Gateway Technical College (GTC) nursing programs. These classes are taught by GTC certified instructors with students earning both KUSD (.75 credit) and GTC credit (3 credits) upon successful completion of the class. Due to the pandemic, until further notice, the courses will earn .50 credit for KUSD and 2 credits for Gateway Technical College.
Because of a crisis and shortage of qualified workers in the health care field and because of specific requirements in the nursing program, ²ÊºçƵµÀ District promotes Career and Technical Education programs to help students earn a living wage.
The C.N.A. course is offered in the summer at Kenosha Gateway Technical College or after school at Indian Trail Academy and High School. It is available to students who are juniors and seniors and meet the initial academic admissions requirements (listed in #2 below).
At course completion, graduates are encouraged to take the state competency exam for state licensure. Students are responsible for the $125.00 exam fee. Upon the successful completion of the exam, students receive C.N.A. certification from the State of Wisconsin and can sign up for Youth Apprenticeship.
Registration is now OPEN for the Fall 2023 CNA course.
